L'utilisation de tous les solides des formulations orales de potassium est contre-indiqué dans les patients avec l'arrêté ou de retard gastro-intestinal (GI) de transit, que ce soit en raison de la structure, pathologiques, ou pharmacologiques causes. Le Potassium est irritant pour le système gastro-muqueuse et peut causer des ulcères et/ou de lésions sténosantes pendant une période prolongée de contact physique. Basé sur des déclarations spontanées d'effets indésirables, la fréquence de l'intestin grêle des lésions associées à enrobage entérique des préparations de chlorure de potassium est de 40 à 50 pour 100 000 années-patients, tandis que pour la cire de matrice à libération contrôlée formulations est de moins d'un pour 100 000 patients-années. L'ulcération œsophagienne a également été signalés après l'administration de la libération contrôlée des formulations de chlorure de potassium cardiaque dans les patients avec l'oesophage de la compression due à l'élargissement de l'atrium gauche. Une supplémentation en Potassium doivent être administrés comme une préparation liquide ou sous forme de suspension aqueuse chez les patients avec une obstruction de l'œsophage et/ou de retard de temps de transit gastro-intestinal.

En raison de ulcéreuse effets, oral potassium doivent être administrés avec prudence chez les patients avec les ulcères gastro-duodénaux ou d'autres maladies de l'appareil digestif supérieur associée à l'inflammation, hémorragie ou de perforation. Les Patients doivent être avertis de ne pas écraser, mâcher ou casser en potassium comprimés ou de capsules, et de les prendre avec un repas et un verre d'eau ou un autre liquide. De Potassium, liquides doit être dilué avant la consommation.
