L'utilisation des neuroleptiques est associé avec des pseudo-symptômes parkinsoniens comme l'akinésie, la bradykinésie, des tremblements, de la pilule roulant, roue dentée de la rigidité et à la posture, y compris des anomalies posture voûtée et démarche traînante. Le début est habituellement de 1 à 2 semaines après l'initiation du traitement ou une augmentation de la dose. Anciens agents neuroleptiques tels que l'halopéridol sont plus susceptibles d'induire ces effets, et leur utilisation peut être contre-indiqué chez les patients atteints de la maladie de Parkinson ou des symptômes parkinsoniens.
