L'utilisation prolongée de corticostéroïdes peut provoquer des cataractes sous-capsulaires postérieures et une élévation de la pression intra-oculaire, ce qui peut conduire à un glaucome et/ou des dommages au nerf optique. La thérapie par inhalation et des corticostéroïdes par voie nasale n'a que rarement produit ces effets, mais doit être administré avec prudence toutefois chez les patients avec une histoire de la cataracte, le glaucome, ou augmentation de la pression intraoculaire. Bien que les effets indésirables des corticostéroïdes peut être minimisé en local plutôt que l'administration systémique, les risques ne sont pas totalement aboli. L'inhalation et par voie nasale appliquée médicament peut être absorbé dans la circulation, en particulier lorsque des doses élevées sont utilisées. Il est important que les doses recommandées de produits, pour ne pas être dépassé et que la plus faible dose efficace être utilisé.
