L'acétaminophène est principalement métabolisé dans le foie à des formes inactives. Cependant, de petites quantités sont converties en voies mineures à des métabolites qui peuvent causer de l'hépatotoxicité ou la méthémoglobinémie. Les Patients avec une insuffisance hépatique peuvent être à risque accru de toxicité en raison de l'augmentation mineure de la voie métabolique de l'activité. De même, la chronique ou la surutilisation de l'acétaminophène peut saturer le primaire, les enzymes hépatiques, et conduire à une augmentation du métabolisme par les voies mineures. Des lésions hépatiques sévères, y compris des cas d'insuffisance hépatique aiguë résultant en une greffe de foie et de la mort, a été rapportée chez des patients prenant de l'acétaminophène. La thérapie avec de l'acétaminophène doit être administré avec prudence chez les patients atteints d'insuffisance hépatique. La surveillance clinique de la fonction hépatique est recommandée. Enseigner aux patients d'éviter de boire de l'alcool tout en prenant contenant de l'acétaminophène médicaments. Les Patients doivent être avertis de ne pas dépasser la dose maximale recommandée dose quotidienne totale de l'acétaminophène (4 g/jour chez les adultes et les enfants de 12 ans ou plus), et de lire tous les médicaments d'ordonnance et over-the-médicaments en vente libre les étiquettes pour s'assurer qu'ils ne sont pas à prendre plusieurs produits contenant de l'acétaminophène, ou de vérifier avec un professionnel de la santé si ils ne sont pas sûrs.

Consommateur:

Narcotiques (opioïdes) agents analgésiques sont largement métabolisé par le foie, et plusieurs d'entre eux (par exemple, la codéine, l'hydrocodone, la mépéridine, la méthadone, la morphine, le propoxyphène) ont métabolites actifs qui sont ensuite transformés à des substances inactives. Les concentrations sériques de ces agents et de leurs métabolites peuvent être augmentés et la demi-vie prolongée chez les patients présentant une altération de la fonction hépatique. La thérapie avec les opioïdes doit être administré avec prudence et initiés, à des doses réduites chez les patients avec une maladie du foie. Les doses subséquentes doivent être titré basé sur la réaction d'un individu plutôt qu'un fixe programme de dosage.
