L'utilisation d'ophtalmologie des récepteurs bêta-adrénergiques bloquants (aka les bêta-bloquants) est considéré par les fabricants pour être contre-indiqué dans les patients avec des sinus bradyarythmie ou un bloc cardiaque de plus que le premier degré (sauf en cas de fonctionnement d'un stimulateur cardiaque). Appliquée par voie topique bêta-bloquants sont une absorption systémique, avec le potentiel pour la production cliniquement significative des effets systémiques, même à faible ou indétectable dans le plasma. Dans les tissus cardiaques, bêta blocus provoque une réduction de la inotrope ainsi que chronotrope activité, qui peut peser sur la fonction cardiaque chez ces patients.
