Les corticostéroïdes peuvent élever le niveau de glucose sanguin de contrarier l'action et la suppression de la sécrétion d'insuline, ce qui entraîne une inhibition de périphérique de l'absorption du glucose et de l'augmentation de la gluconéogenèse. Le traitement avec des corticostéroïdes doit être administré avec prudence chez les patients atteints de diabète sucré, l'intolérance au glucose, ou une prédisposition à l'hyperglycémie. Les Patients diabétiques doivent être surveillés de plus près au cours de la corticothérapie, et leur régime antidiabétique ajusté en conséquence.
