En raison de leur impact négatif inotrope et chronotrope des effets sur le cœur, les récepteurs bêta-adrénergiques bloquants (aka les bêta-bloquants) réduire le débit cardiaque et peut déclencher ou aggraver les symptômes de l'insuffisance artérielle chez les patients atteints de la maladie vasculaire périphérique. En outre, le non sélectif bêta-bloquants (par exemple, le propranolol, le pindolol, timolol) peuvent atténuer les catécholamines, la vasodilatation induite par le cours de l'exercice par le blocage bêta-2 récepteurs dans les vaisseaux sanguins périphériques.
