Altération de la tolérance au glucose a été observée chez certains patients traités par des contraceptifs oraux et semble être lié principalement à la dose d'œstrogènes. Cependant, les progestatifs peuvent augmenter la sécrétion d'insuline et de produire de l'insuline de la résistance à des degrés divers, en fonction de l'agent. Les Patients diabétiques doivent être surveillés de plus près pendant le traitement par les œstrogènes et/ou les progestatifs et les ajustements dans leur régime antidiabétique.
